Not many - if any - defenders stand a chance one-on-one with D’Andre Swift; after all, swift is in his name. Originating from the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, PA, D’Andre attended St. Joseph’s Prep between 2013-2017 and quickly became a household name to recruiters across the country. Though he impressed plenty in his first three years, D’Andre’s senior year performance was astronomical, as he rushed for 1,564 yards and 25 touchdowns which led the Hawks to a 14-0 record and state title. His four-year span at St. Joseph’s prompted national media to rank him as high as the #1 player in Pennsylvania (ESPN and 247Sports), #3 running back in the nation (247Sports), and #33 overall player in the nation (247Sports). Consequently, D’Andre became heavily sought after by the country’s most well-esteemed football programs, though he ultimately landed in Athens, Georgia to play for the Georgia Bulldogs.

In his first year as a Bulldog, D’Andre appeared in each of Georgia’s 15 games, accumulating 618 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as well as 153 yards on 17 catches through the air. D’Andre showcased just how good he’d come to be early on in the season in a Week 7 matchup against Missouri in which he broke off a 71-yard run and finished the day with 94 yards. Later that season, D’Andre once again found daylight for big yardage, as he rushed for a 64-yard touchdown in Georgia’s SEC championship win over Auburn. His production would end up warranting a spot on the coaches’ Freshman All-SEC team. Promoted to the team’s starting running back in 2018, D’Andre showed the world how well he could run the ball, surpassing 1,000 yards rushing and scoring 10 touchdowns on the ground, both of which led the team. In back-to-back weeks that season, D’Andre set personal bests for himself, with an 83-yard touchdown run and 156 rushing yards in a Week 10 game against Kentucky, followed by a 72-yard touchdown run and 186 rushing yards against Auburn the next week. His 83-yard run and 186 yards were career bests in longest run and most yards in a game respectively. D’Andre would also be awarded SEC Offensive Player of the Week after the Kentucky game.

In 2019, which would end up as his final year at Georgia, D’Andre continued to lead the charge on the ground, having himself another 1,000 yard rushing season with 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns. He also added 24 receptions for 216 yards and a touchdown. After his 156 yard performance against Kentucky the year before, D’Andre once again tore up the Wildcat defense, rushing for 179 yards and two touchdowns en route to his second SEC Offensive Player of the Week award in as many years. Over the course of the season, D’Andre recorded five 100 yard rushing performances, and nine in his career, while also becoming just the fifth Bulldog in program history to finish with multiple 1,000 yard rushing seasons. He would later be named to the coaches’ All-SEC 1st Team as well as the AP All-SEC 2nd Team. Having declared for the draft in January of 2020, D’Andre now looked to bring his talent to the next level.
In April of 2020, just four months removed from D’Andre’s final snap as a Bulldog, the Detroit Lions selected the Philadelphia native with the 35th overall pick of the draft. D’Andre quickly assimilated into the Lions’ scheme, as he rushed for a touchdown in his debut, and recorded his first NFL 100-yard game five weeks later in a win over the Jaguars. All in all, D’Andre put together 521 yards and eight touchdowns rushing as well as 46 catches for 357 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie year. Now as the feature back in Detroit, D’Andre hopes to replicate his success from St. Joseph’s and Georgia and rush for many more touchdowns at Ford Field. Off the field, D’Andre has worked to cultivate his own brand, “Say No More”.
